Mathews PTA could not fulfill its mission of being a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child without its dedicated volunteers.  It takes ALL of you to successfully execute the events and initiatives below.  Please take a moment to print and complete the volunteer form.  A coordinator or chairperson will contact you at the appropriate time.  Thank you so much for your dedication to our children!

Book Fair

Twice a year, Mathews holds a Scholastic Book Fair to raise funds.  It also provides teachers and students a great way to stock up on new and exciting books.  Volunteer help is needed throughout each week long event.  Chairperson: Tiffany Perrine, 706-565-5722

Decorating Committee

This creative committee will decorate the main bulletin board and help prepare for special events.  Chairperson: Position Available 

Hospitality

This person is responsible for birthday, sympathy, congratulatory and other special occasion cards to Mathews' staff throughout the year.  Chairperson: Beth Hamric, 706-563-7244

Math/ Science Night

Held in the fall, Math/ Science Night is a family night of activities and learning centered on learning and fun.  Chairpersons: Tiffany Perrine, 706-565-5722 and Francie Stanford, 706-561-6247

Membership

This committee assists in encouraging parents and teachers to join the PTA by promoting the benefits.  Chairperson: Francie Stanford, 706-561-6247

Papa John's Pizza Nights

This person is responsible for coordinating our monthly fundraiser nights.  Chairperson: Michele Grimes

Red Ribbon Week

One week is set aside to focus on the dangers of drug abuse.  This committee is dedicated to presenting materials to students in a fun yet easy to understand manner.  Chairperson: Jennie Hannay, 706-565-5544

Reflections

The program offers students the opportunity to create works of art for fun and recognition. Students in preschool through grade 12 are encouraged to create and submit works of art in one or more of six areas: literature, musical composition, photography, visual arts (which includes art forms such as drawing, painting, print making, and collage), dance choreography and film/video production.  Chairperson: Catherine Hinton, 706-563-1798

Room Parents

Room Parents act as the primary liaison between the classroom teacher and students’ families.  Room Parents initiate and promote the team effort between school and home that is so important at Mathews.  Chairperson: Position Available

Sally Foster

Sally Foster is a big fundraiser for Mathews PTA.  The chairperson is responsible for coordinating the fundraising effort.  Chairperson: Petra Gordon, 706-610-8487

Santa's Workshop

This committee coordinates the stocking and staffing of the Santa's Workshop held in December.  They also assist children with gift buying and create nametags and gift bags for their purchases.  Chairperson: Michele Williams, 706-568-8634

 

Sara Spano Clothing Bank

The mission of the Clothing Bank is to enhance the self-esteem and promote a positive self-image of disadvantage children in the School System by providing them with a school wardrobe consisting of new and gently worn items.  The coordinator is responsible for scheduling volunteers for our workdays and also coordinating clothing drives/ collections.  Chairperson: Kristy Loudermilk, 706-565-8211

Spirit Wear

This person is responsible for selling Mathews Spirit Wear throughout the school year.  Chairperson: Karen Abraham, 706-561-8675

Spring Carnival

The committee is responsible for planning/ coordinating games, activities and food  They are also responsible for ticket sales.  Volunteers are needed in planning, organizing and working the various booths.  Chairperson: Position Available

Summer Fun Expo

Local businesses gather to provide you with information on activities and camps to do in the summer.  Chairperson: Position Available  

Teacher Appreciation Week

This committee is responsible for planning and carrying out the special activities for our faculty and staff during their special week in May.  Chairperson: Position Available  

Terrific Tiger

This person is responsible for coordinating the special attention given to our Terrific Tigers each week.  Chairperson: Position Available

Tiger Connection

This publication is published monthly to provide parents with current information.  Volunteers are needed to make copies.  Chairperson: Nikki McCarty, 706-329-8671

Vision and Hearing Screening

Volunteers assist in the testing of vision and hearing of students.  This event requires 4-6 hours on the day of testing and one hour of training through Muscogee County School District.  Chairperson: Danielle Erley, 706-562-9121

Yearbook

This committee is responsible for creating the 2009-2010 Mathews Elementary Yearbook.  Volunteers are needed to take photos, create pages and organize information.  Chairperson: Nikki McCarty, 706-329-8671

5th Grade Celebration

This committee coordinates the activities, food and decorations.  Volunteers are also needed to chaperone the event.  Chairperson: Position Available
